STEP 2: Determine
Eligibility Requirements - PMP® Candidates |
|
Candidates who
prepare for the PMP® certification exam with Point Advantage should meet the
education and experience hours required as part of exam eligibility. Our PMP®
Bootcamp, Virtual Class, and Self-Study training options all qualify and are
approved for 35 hours of formal project management education. Know that exam
applications are to be submitted AFTER receiving the course completion
certificate from Point Advantage, if any of the 35 training hours are needed
from us.
QUALIFYING.

or university, here are the requirements. You must have 4,500 hours of project
management related experience spanning the past 8 years, with qualifying hours

project submitted on the application, an individual MUST have led, directed,
or managed at least one of the following:

The final eligibility requirement
for both Category 1 and Category 2 applicants is to have 35 contact hours of
project management education or training. These contact hours can be earned
through qualifying training classes related to project management (with or
without a focus on exam preparation). Plus, our virtual class is approved by PMI

APPLYING.
Updated October
2006: Candidates applying for the PMP® exam should allow 10-15 business days to
receive notice of approval from PMI. The approval process can take an additional
20-30 business days or more if audited. So, get started on your exam application
early.
SCHEDULING.
Once approved by
PMI®, go to www.2test.com. You can search for testing centers that offer the
exam near you. Most centers operate Monday-Friday, and some on Saturday, too.
EXAM
FEES.
Members pay only
$405, while non-members pay $555. The primary consensus is that it makes sense
to become a member since the annual membership fee is only $120.
PASSING
SCORE.
The PMP® exam
consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. The number of questions required for
a passing score for the 2005 exam format was initially set at 141 out of 175 or
81.7%, with 25 questions that are not counted in the final determination.
However, PMI® revised and announced a change to the passing score. Test takers
are now required to score 106 questions correctly out of 175 questions or 60.5%.
